Muhammad Ilyas (Phd Biotechnology)

Specialization Medical Genetics

I completed my BS honours in Biotechnology and informatics at balochistant university of information technology, engineering and management sciences quetta (BUITMS), followed by master of science (MS) in Biotechnology. I started my Ph.D. in Biotechnology at International Islamic University Islamabad. During Ph.D. main aim of my research was to analyse the molecular pathogenesis of autosomal recessive intellectual disability in Pakistani population by combining interdisciplinary fields such as genetics, clinical diagnosis and bioinformatics. I joined Professor Henry Houlden lab in June 2018 for 6 months as a visiting research scholar, funded by higher education commission of Pakistan (HEC).

During my stay at the Institute of Neurology (ION) at Professor Henry Houlden lab I learned, WES data analysis of patients with neurological disorders, genotyping, southern blotting, tissue sample collection from patients and Sanger sequencing techniques. I also participated many international conferences during my stay.

Currently I am working as DNA Forensic expert in DNA Lab at National Forensic Science Agency (NFSA) Islamabad Pakistan.
