Marilena Christoforou

I have graduated as a Biologist from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and hold an MSc on Applied Genetics and Biodiagnostics. In 2019, I completed a three-month Erasmus traineeship at Guy’s Hospital, in the Department of Dermatology under Dr. Francesca Capon. In late 2019, l completed a traineeship at the neurogenetics lab of Prof Henry Houlden where I worked closely with Stephanie Efthymiou on rare paroxysmal neurological disorders. By using NGS such as exome sequencing, I helped to identify rare causative gene variants in cases from Central Asia and have learned to verify and confirm these variants by Sanger sequencing.

Since then, I am working as a Research Assistant in the Cancer Cell Protein Metabolism group, at the Department of Immunology and Inflammation, Imperial College London.

As a researcher my aim is to contribute in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of severe diseases such as neurogenerative diseases and cancer.
