Dr. Scala is an Italian pediatrician with a strong interest in neurogenetics and genomics. His research is currently focusing on the analysis of high-throughput sequence and genotype data in pediatric patients with complex neurological and neuromuscular conditions. He is currently a PhD student at the University of Genoa (Italy) and actively collaborates with clinicians and researchers at the IRCCS Giannina Gaslini Institute (Genoa, Italy). Dr. Scala attended Prof. Henry Houlden’s Lab during a 7-month traineeship in 2019. In that time, he analyzed NGS data of a large cohort of patients from consanguineous families with complex neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, studying many genes of interest for both diagnostic and research purposes. Dr. Scala is collaborating with Houlden’s Lab on several research projects focused on the identification of the genetic causes and pathogenic mechanisms underlying rare neurological conditions in children.
