I graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bologna and completed Neurology Residency Program at the University of Milan. During my training I developed a specific interest for neuromuscular diseases and I completed internships at leading international neuromuscular centres such as the MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases (London).
In 2015 I was appointed as a Clinical Research Associate in the Department of Neuromuscular Diseases at UCL Institute of Neurology and developed a research interest on inherited myopathies and mitochondrial diseases which became the topic of my PhD.
My research focuses on improving our understanding of the genetic bases of inherited myopathies and mitochondrial diseases and their correlation with clinical manifestations. My approach combines deep phenotyping (including muscle MRI pattern analysis), next generation sequencing technologies (whole exome/genome sequencing) and functional studies.
I am also involved in clinical research for Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and I undertake clinical activity in the Muscle and Mitochondrial Services at National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London.
