I qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons Dublin in 2012 and completed my postgraduate training at Beaumont Hospital before being appointed as a Brain Research Trust Fellow at the Institute of Neurology, Queensquare, London. The genetics and pathophysiology of Cluster Headache is the main focus of my PhD. Strong evidence exists to indicate a genetic basis for Cluster Headache. However, inheritance patterns are complex. A number of candidate genes have been investigated but have failed to yield replicable results. I am currently collecting DNA samples from cluster headache sufferers to try to decipher the genes involved. We are very interested in families where there are two or more sufferers in a family. My approach involves a combination techniques including whole exome sequencing.
